Acts 8:4-25 The Gift you cannot buy

We are working through Acts on a daily basis. This is a sermon version of Acts 8:4-25. In Acts 8, we begin to see Jesus' promise to the apostles in Acts 1:7-8. God has spread his people throughout the land as a result of persecution in Jerusalem. Everywhere they went they preached the News about Jesus (8:4). The text keys in on the work of Philip, Peter, and John in Samaria by focusing on the general result of faith and baptism and the more specific interaction with a magician named Simon. The conflict of Simon's sinful desire to purchase the ability to lay hands on people and give the Holy Spirit is a call to test our own desires, motives, and thoughts and to refine our understanding of ministry and what God is doing. God is not for sale. He does what He pleases. He does it freely. Walk with us in Acts.
